Popular Shona Novels with an Ancient Setting
Popular Shona novels with a pre-colonial setting were written mainly between the 1960’s up to and including the 1980’s.
Although one may find recent Shona stories based on traditional rural life setting, it is rare. Morden writers tend to mix town life with rural life in their themes. Even the rural life is not the ancient one, as depicted by earlier Zimbabwean authors.
In this article, I list what I consider to be the classic Shona novels with an ancient setting.
